n yes no doubt violence in media games n movies....all are shedding off the innocence n simplicity of childhood.......children thz days r tech savvy right from birth...don't get to hold punjabi kisse kahaniya books or sit down with nani-dadi to listen to d bed-time stories.
Thers's a need for Child psychologists-writers as well as parents n teachers collaborative effort to understand the brain-functioning of d child n ultimately focussing on age-specific issues.
children are no longer fascinated by raja-rani or fantasy world stories....they need more moral values oriented stuff but that too on real grounds not the Aladin n magic lamp or hatim tayi ya sindbad stories..those were good for our times.....not now
Now thy look forward to harry potter stuff but thn i wonder wat impact they left on the mind of the child ...... all he wants to be a spiderman batman superman.....aggressive tendencies get full blown out in d process.......
can go on writing a lot on it.....lol......so lets discuss the topic at hand.....
Again mainu poori saumet nahin haan, payhlee gal hai kay saday mulk ( UK) vich vee aaj kal day niaanay sato hushiaa han, par sama Harry Potter dee kamjabi hai kay Sinbad atay Aladdin vargiyaa kahanian nu hee pasand karday hai..Imagination is key to grab the child’s attention..Aggressive tendencies have always been in Human, think Roman Collosium…raja tay rani vaalian kahanian vee is tarhan hundia see…If they want to be Spiderman, its because these are modern Devs, in better productions then the low budget local Indian dramas or Ramayan stories…Literature should feed of these trends…also action stories for boys are and will always be more interesting than moral stories or social issues..when you are a child in UK, you don’t read social Literature ( that is adult stuff), you fall in love with English because you are Alice in Wonderland, you are Peter in Narnia, you are Sinbad or the Dastan the Prince of Persia..the key to the western story is exactly the same as Ram fighting Ravan..
Good children’s literature is not social or moral, it is imaginative so the child falls in love with the language..maybe even anto adult ( Matilda is one of the greatest children’s novels because the villains are adults who always tok kids, so she takes revenge on them). I remember when I was in Ludhiana in Oct, ghar dee darani was teaching her daughter to read in English
1) The story had no moral point, and she did not get that.. I told her that the point was imagination, not morals ( it was town mouse and country mouse, so I guess all there was , was how a Pindu compares with a Shahir vala)
2) My boys kept on laughing at how bad her daughters accents was, why because English is not an Indian’s mother tongue
“

What I do agree is on Parent input..you talk about how much more advanced Kids are today..well I could not read and write English to a high standard until 9th or 10th grade in my time…the school our boys go to force the parents to teach 2/5’s of the curriculaumm at home ( lots of homework) and the parents have to sign the diary everyday to prove they have done so..those parents who leave education soley to the school, needless to day their kids are at the bottom of the class..one thing all parenrs are forced to do by the school is make kids read novels..my children started off with level 1 bookd when they were 4 years old. The Oldest boy is now 9 and can read all the Harry Potter books, understanding 90% of the words…They have a superior English to all working class white people..why? Because they read English everynight, in stories that are fun and modern…
So if you want the kids to love Punjabi, instead of reading Town Mouse and Country Mouse, read Punjabi Kids books…
