Why don't our people read books written in Punjabi?

Firstly I understand the irony that I am writing this in English. Forgive me but I am less likely to make spelling mistake in HTML and for those of you who know me, punjabi taa meri dooji boli ay.

But one I am very proud of.

So I would like to know your view about why we don't read books in punjabi. 

I would like to give my two pennies worth.

A friend of mine pointed out that Sikhs don't pray to an idol but a book, which we prostrate ourselves before willingly, yet how many of us actually read or listen to what it really is saying? We will mathatek yet if someone mentions literature we nak chak at it.

My second point. I have two young children in Primary school in the UK. When I asked the headmaster how Donizetti improve their education I was told from UK perspective , they must be good at maths but to really succeed in better jobs and society they need a higher vocabulary than the average Englishman so must read and right to avoid gutter class. I asked how do you do that? Answer, from the age of 2 make them read and listen to the literature of their mother Tongue. By 5 they must be reading novels for children and each year more grown up novels. A scientific study found those kids who read novels every night improved their english  thousand fold. The average increase in word power was 25,000 words after 4 years if they read books especially novels as no teacher could teach all words. This is the secret formua for high levelbschools in UK.

Now let's apply to Punjab. If the punjabi child does not get into habit of reading Punjabi stories neither will his vocabulary improve to high standard and neither will punjabi survive in the long run.

If you love punjabi you must be reading 5 to 10 punjabi novels a year.. When a child, we must encourage it

ਬਿਟੂ ਵੀਰ ਜੀ , ਜੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਚ ਲਿਖਣ ਗੇ ਤਾਂ , ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਨਾ ਪੜਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਇਹ ਮੈਸੇਜ ਪੜਨ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਵੀ ਨਹੀ ਕਰਨਗੇ , ਇੰਗਲਿਸ਼ ਚ ਮੈਸੇਜ ਹੈ  ਏ ਸੋਚ ਕੇ ਜਰੂਰ ਪੜਨ ਗੇ , ਏਸ ਲਈ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਨੂ ਪ੍ਰਮੋਟ ਕਰੋ ਚਾਹੇ ਜਿਵੇ ਵੀ

ਜੇ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਸਹਨਿ ਹੈ, ਨਾਲੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਦੂਜ ਿਬੋਲੀ ਹੈ ਬਿਟੂ ਜੀ, ਇਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਕੋਈ ਬਾਰੀ ਲਿਖਣ’ਚ ਗਲਤੀਆਂ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਨੇ

ਡੀਅਰ ਰੂਪ ਜੀ, ਚਿੱਠੀ ਦਾ ਨੋਟਿਸ ਲੈਣ ਲਈ ਧੰਨਵਾਦ। ਦਿਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਛਡਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ। ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ਕ ਤਾਂ ਪਰਵਾਸੀ ਸਾਹਿਤਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਲਿਖਤਾਂ ਛਾਪ ਕੇ ਅਮੀਰ ਬਣ ਗਏ ਹਨ ਜਦੋਂ ਕਿ ਲੇਖਕ ਤਾਂ ਛਪੀ ਕਿਤਾਬ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਜਾਂ ਯਾਰਾਂ ਦੋਸਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੰਡ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਦਿੱਲੀ ਦੇ ਲੇਖਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਇਕ ਕੋ-ਆਪ੍ਰੇਟਿਵ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ਨ ਘਰ ਕਾਇਮ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ ਜੋ ਨਹੀਂ ਚੱਲ ਸਕਿਆ। ਫਿਰ ਕੁਝ ਲੇਖਕ ਦੋਸਤਾਂ ਨੇ ਇਕ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕੀਤੀ, ਕੁਝ ਕਿਤਾਬਾਂ ਛਾਪੀਆਂ ਪ੍ਰੰਤੂ ਦੋ ਸਾਲ ਬਾਅਦ ਉਹ ਵੀ ਠੱਪ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ। ਲੇਖਕ ਕਿਤਾਬ ਤਾਂ ਛਾਪ/ਛਪਵਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਪ੍ਰੰਤੂ ਮਾਰਕੀਟਿੰਗ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਤੁਸੀਂ ਲਿਖਦੇ ਚਲੋ, ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ। ਅਗਲੀ ਕਿਤਾਬ ਦੇ ਖਰੜੇ ਦੀ ਕਿਸੇ ਭਲੇਮਾਣਸ ਸਿਆਣੇ ਲੇਖਕ ਤੋਂ ਵੈਟਿੰਗ ਕਰਵਾ ਲੈਣਾ। ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਦੇ ਮੌਜੂਦਾ ਅਧਿਆਪਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਪੀੜ੍ਹੀ ਵੀ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਪੀੜ੍ਹੀ ਜਿੰਨੀ ਸਕਾਲਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਕੇਵਲ ਤਨਖਾਹਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਬਟੂਏ/ਬੈਂਕ ਭਰੇ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਬਹੁਤੇ ਅਧਿਆਪਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਤਾਂ ਪੜ੍ਹਨ-ਲਿਖਣ ਜਾਂ ਸਮਕਾਲੀ ਗਿਆਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਰੁਚੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ। ਬਹਰ ਹਾਲ ਮਿਹਨਤ ਕਰੋ, ਮੁਲ ਜ਼ਰੂਰ ਪਵੇਗਾ।

ਬਹੁਤ ਧੰਬਵਾਦ ਤੁਹਾਡੀ ਸਾਪੋਰਟ ਲਈ। ਹੁਣ ਜੋ ਹੋਗਿਆ ਹੋਗਿਆ। ਮੈਂ ਹੁਣ ਨਵੀਂ ਕਿਤਾਬ ਲਿਖ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ, ਪਰ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਅੰਗ੍ਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਜੰਮਪਲ ਹਾਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਕਿਥੇ ਗਲਤੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਉਸ ਲਈ ਮੈਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਤੇ ਡੀਪੈਂਦੰਟ ਹਾਂ। ਸਚ ਹੈ ਵੱਧ ਲੋਕ ਮਦਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ, ਜਿਹੜੇ ਕਰਦੇ ਓਹ ਨਵੀਂ ਪੀੜ੍ਹੀ ਦੇ ਹਨ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਜ਼ੇ ੲਮ ਵੈਬਸਾਇਟ ਦੇ। ਜਿੰਨਾ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਓਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਇਸ ਵੈਬ ਸਾਇਟ ਦੇ ਨਵਾਸੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਨੇ। ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤਾਂ ਗਲਤੀਆਂ ਮਹਿਸੂਸ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀਆਂ। ਜੇ ਤੁਸੀ ਤਿਆਰ ਹੋ “ਓ” ਨਾਵਲ ਦੇ ਮੱਟਰ ਨੂੰ ਪਰੂਫਰੀਡ ਕਰਨ, ਮੈਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ…

ਗੱਲ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ਕ ਅਤੇ ਮਾਰਕੀਟਿੰਗ ਦੀ। ਪਹਿਲੇ ਦਾ ਹਲ ਮੇਰੇੇ ਖਿਆਲ ਵਿਚ ਹੈ ਕੋਈ ਅਮੀਰ ਬੰਦਾ ਇੰਡਿਆ ‘ਚੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਜਾਂ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਰਾਹ ਨਾਲ਼ ਇੰਟਰਨੈਸ਼ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ਕ , ਪੈਂਗੁਇਨ ਬੂਕਸ ( ਮੇਰੀ ਖਿਆਲ’ਚ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਲਫਜ਼ ਪਿੰਗੂ ਹੋਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ) ਵਰਗੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਕੰਵਿਨਸ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਕਿਤਾਬਾਂ ਛਾਪਣ। ਓਹਹੀ ਮਾਰਕੀਟਿੰਗ ਕਰੂਗੇ। ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਹਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ। ਦੂਜਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਮੈਂ ਹੁਣ ਕਰੂਗਾ; ਸਾਰੇ ਲੇਖ ਕੇਵਲ ਇੰਟਾਨੈਟ ਤੇ ਛਾਪਣ, ਭਾਵੇ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਮਤਲਬ ਆਮ ਜੰਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਤਾ ਲੱਗਿਆ, ਪਰ ਦਰਅਸਲ ਓਹ ਕਿਥੇ ਅੱਜ ਕੱਲ੍ਹ ਪੜ੍ਹ ਦੇ ਹਨ? ਇਸ ਰਾਹ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਸ਼ਕ ਨੂੰ ਪੈਸੇ ਦੇਣ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ। ਕੱਲ੍ਹ ਦੀ ਕਿਤਾਬ ਤਾਂ ਕੰਪਊਟਰ ਹੀ ਹੈ। ਕੀ ਖਿਆਲ?
