ਇਕ ਦੰਦ ਕਥਾ ਇਹ ਵੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪਾਸ਼ ਦੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਕੁੜੀ ਨਾਲ ਨਜਾਇਜ਼ ਸਬੰਧ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਰੇੜਕੇ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਾਪਤ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਉਸਦੇ ਭਰਾਵਾਂ ਨੇ ਪਾਸ਼ ਨੂੰ ਗੋਲੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨਾ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਖਤਮ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਕਹਾਣੀਆਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਸੱਚੀ ਕਿਹੜੀ ਹੈ, ਇਸਦੀ ਘੋਖ ਪੜਤਾਲ ਹੋਣੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ।

ਪਾਸ਼ ਦੀ ਮਾਸੀ ਨੇ ਕਤਲ ਦਾ ਸੀਨ ਬਿਆਨ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਇਸ਼ਾਰਤਨ ਕਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ''ਅਵਤਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਕੁੜੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਤਾਂ ਬਾਹਲਾ ਪਿਆ ਸੀ।'' (ਪੰਨਾ 146) ਪਰ ਰਾਜਿੰਦਰ ਰਾਹੀ ਨੇ ਅਵਤਾਰ ਦੀ ਮਾਸੀ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਅੱਗੋਂ ਪੁੱਛ ਪੜਤਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੀ।

ਪਾਸ਼ ਦੇ ਕਤਲ ਦੇ ਕੇਸ ਵਿਚ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਥਮ ਸੂਚਨਾ ਰਿਪੋਰਟ ਦਰਜ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੋਵੇਗੀ। ਚਸ਼ਮਦੀਦ ਗਵਾਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਿਆਨ ਲਏ ਗਏ ਹੋਣਗੇ। ਫੇਰ ਮੁਕੱਦਮਾ ਅਦਾਲਤ ਵਿਚ ਵੀ ਗਿਆ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ। ਉਥੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਸਬੂਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਛਾਣ-ਬੀਣ ਹੋਈ ਹੋਵੇਗੀ। ਅਦਾਲਤ ਨੇ ਘੋਖ-ਪੜਤਾਲ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਆਪਣਾ ਫੈਸਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ। ਰਾਜਿੰਦਰ ਰਾਹੀ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਮੁਕੱਦਮੇ ਵਿਚ ਭੁਗਤੇ ਗਵਾਹਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਅਦਾਲਤੀ ਫੈਸਲੇ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਨਣ ਦੀ ਕੋਈ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੀ। ਇਹ ਇਸ ਪੁਸਤਕ ਦਾ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਕਮਜ਼ੋਰ ਪੱਖ ਹੈ।

ਪਰ ਫੇਰ ਵੀ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਸਭ ਖਾਮੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਬਾਵਜੂਦ ਮੈਂ ਇਸ ਪੁਸਤਕ ਦੇ ਪੜ੍ਹਨ ਦੀ ਸਿਫਾਰਸ਼ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਇਸ ''ਕ੍ਰਾਂਤੀਕਾਰੀ'' ਸ਼ਾਇਰ ਦੀ ਹਕੀਕਤ ਮਾਲੂਮ ਹੋ ਸਕੇ।

Pash (ਅਵਤਾਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਪਾਸ਼, sometimes spelled Paash) was the pen name of Avtar Singh Sandhu (September 9, 1950 - March 23, 1988), an Indian poet. His strongly left-wing views were reflected in his poetry.

He was born in Talwandi Salem, Jalandhar, Punjab, growing up in the midst of Naxalite a revolutionary movement waged in punjab against the landlords, industrialists, traders, etc. who control the means of production. He published his first book of revolutionary poems, Loh-Katha (Iron Tale) in 1970; his militant and provocative tone raised the ire of the establishment and a murder charge was hastily brought against him. He spent nearly two years in jail, before being finally acquitted.

On acquittal, he became involved in Punjab's maoist front, editing a literary magazine, Siarh (The Plow Line). He became a popular political figure on the left during this period, and was awarded a fellowship at the Punjabi Academy of Letters in 1985. He toured the United Kingdom and the United States the following year; while in the U.S., he became involved with the Anti-47 Front, opposing Sikh extremist violence.

Pash, who was in Punjab for a holiday from the U.S., was shot dead by a group of Khalistani terrorists.
